Having trouble Configuring Backup
dbrandt6 — Wed, 09/17/2008 - 13:39
I would like to Backup using my .mac idisk. What exactly do I enter in the Server field? I have entered my correct Username and Password that allows me to access my idisk, but am also not sure what to put in the Directory field.
After all the above is correctly entered (with your input), do I go to my idisk and will I find a new folder there with the backup information?
Thank you in advance.... Doug Brandt

Configured Backup as per instructions without success
dogedoc — Fri, 10/31/2008 - 05:08I configured the backup as per all instructions without success. The little spinning wheel at the top of the iphone does not spin at all after I tap the backup button (nor does it spin when I tap the csv report) indicating communication within my wireless network (at home or at business). In addition, when I go to my mobileme account under documents, the info is not there.
If I email the report, that does function.
Current config:
Server:
https://idisk.mac.com
Username:
(my mobileme username)
Password
(my mobileme password)
Directory:
/Documents/
I know this is a case with two separate issues (i.e. reports and backup) but I am wondering if they are connected so I decided to place my case under this heading.
Can not figure out where I am going wrong?
RE: Configured Backup as per instructions without success
costmo — Fri, 10/31/2008 - 12:21Hello,
The 2 most common errors in configuring for MobileMe are:
1. Using your entire MobileMe email address as the username. It should only be the part before the "@" I would venture to guess that this is the issue you are having.
2. Not paying attention to case sensitivity in the directory name. Your example above shows "Documents" with an upper case "D" so that probably isn't the issue.
We have had enough people request technical support over issue number 1 above that we have decided to detect that for MobileMe users and automatically fix it in a future revision.
If that doesn't fix it for you, you can either reply to this thread or email me privately at chris@costmosoft.com
Thanks.
P.S. There aren't currently any progress indicators for uploads. Sorry. When the screen that says, "this screen will be dismissed when it's done" goes away, then it's done. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that the file made it. We know that the lack of meaningful feedback in that part of the application is something that needs to be addressed, and it will be in a near-future release.
Backup to mobileme
dogedoc — Mon, 11/03/2008 - 09:44This worked. It was number two on your list. While I wrote it down in my post, when I went back to check, the case was a lower d and not a capital D.
Thanks
RE: Backup to mobileme
costmo — Mon, 11/03/2008 - 09:49Excellent. I just sent you an email, but you obviously don't need that now.
Please let us know if you have any other questions or problems.
RE: Having trouble Configuring Backup
costmo — Wed, 09/17/2008 - 15:27Hello,
The server name will be filled in for you in the case of a .Mac/MobileMe iDisk when you go into (from the starting screen) Configuration --> Backup and Restore --> Configure Backups --> Tap the server name (or empty field that would contain the server) --> MobileMe.
That will automatically fill in the name of the server for you. If you want to manually type it, the server address is:
https://idisk.mac.com
I don't know if the fact that it is labeled "MobileMe" instead of what you are used to (.Mac) makes it more confusing for you. The .Mac service has been renamed MobileMe by Apple, even though the server name for iDisk sync remained the same.
As for the directory, if you leave it blank, it will leave the backup in the starting (root) directory of your iDisk. You can put it into any directory that exists on your iDisk. If you're not too sure about which one to use, I would recommend "Documents" (without the quotes). If you do that, backups will be in your Documents directory.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you...
dbrandt6 — Wed, 09/17/2008 - 16:20Works just fine now. Thanks again!
