light.APP

light.APP is now available for free in the App Store. (click here to get it)

light.APP is the first flashlight app that utilizes the iPhone 4's LED (camera flash) and was also designed to be used by people who need a flashlight! There are others that offer similar capabilities, but they all miss the mark.

If you want to find out why this app was made and how it differs from similar apps, but you haven't already read my "Social experiment" article, click here.

In addition to a standard flashlight function, light.APP:

  • Has an interface that was designed to be used in low light, unlike a surprising number of other flashlight apps, that appear to have missed the "design" phase of the development process.
  • Has the ability to enable or disable your iPhone's built-in sleep function. The default setting leaves the light on as long as the app is running, so you don't have to touch the screen every minute to keep it active
  • Can be set to hide or display your iPhone's current battery charge level so that you always know how much juice you've got left

light.APP is a free, easy to use ad-supported application. There's no reason to not give it a try. If you don't use it, delete it. If you like it and don't want to see the advertisements any more, a $0.99 (USD) in-app purchase is available to permanently remove ads.

The application is simple to use, so it doesn't require a manual. We are posting the screen shots from light.APP's App Store listing below to give you a peek.

A quick description of the main features.
When the light is on, you see a green button. The screen is dark so it does not impede your ability to see that which you are trying to see with the flashlight! Optionally, this page may display the battery charge level.
Tap the big power button in the middle of the screen, and it will turn red and the light turns off. Tap it again, and the button will again turn green and the light turns back on. Easy, right?
Open your iPhone's Settings app and you can configure light.APP to display or hide the battery charge level on its main screen. You may also set the option that prevents your iPhone from automatically sleeping/locking while light.APP is running. These are both enabled by default.
If you like light.APP but don't want to see the ads, you can tap the dollar sign that is in the lower left-hand corner of the main screen and make this in-app purchase. The dollar sign and the ads will go away forever. We won't ask you for money for light.APP ever again. Promise.
